I was supposed to go to Manhattan yesterday to see Ferry Corsten at the Nokia Theater. I was excited, because not only was I going to get to see Ferry, who I haven't seen for probably two years, nor because I haven't been to a club in the city since Halloween, but mostly because I have never seen the Nokia Theater. There are a lot of events upcoming at the venue on Made Event's website and I was very excited to get a look at the place. However, this possibly amazing night never happened, and this is why:
I was going to leave work at 5, catch the train into 30th street at 6:30, and from there catch the Megabus at 8:15, which would arrive at Penn Station around 10:15. The first issue I ran into was my father not getting done work until 6:00, making it impossible to catch the train. However I didn't figure this would matter that much.
I got home at 6:30 and decided to replan. Eventually, I convinced my dad to bring my two friends and I to 30th street station, where we could catch the 9:30 bus instead. We got there around 8:30, checked out the times for everything, and then proceeded to wait for the bus. You are supposed to be there 15 minutes early, which we were. And then beyond that, we waited until 9:45 without a bus ever showing up. Frustrated, we decided to take the train, even though we already had tickets for the bus. We figured that we'd rather spend the extra $21 to make sure we made it to the city in the timely fashion. Things just got worse from this point on.
So, after having bought the bus ticket, we went and bought tickets into Trenton, and then from there into Penn Station. The train was supposed to arrive somewhere around 10:00. Then, there are announcements from Septa, saying that due to a switch malfunction, all trains are subject to delays up to 30 minutes. "No big deal," we all thought as we waited. We'd at least make it to NYC by 1:00 am.
Well, after hours of waiting, and two trains never showing, 12:30 rolled around. I decided that it wasn't going to work, and went to McDonalds to get some food. As I'm there, Erica calls and tells me the train showed up, but I said that I wouldn't make it back up there in time. I was upset originally, because I wouldn't have minded even making it around 2:40 am, because I would still get to go to the club. However, luckily I didn't get on that train, because I found out today that it didn't get into Penn Station until 5am.
So, that was the terrible part of the night. However, I paid $12 for a taxi ride over to Buckhead. Mike, also known as "The Situation" from the Jersey Shore show was there. Joey let me get to the VIP area, and I got to meet him. I even got a picture with him. As much as I hated him from the show, he was nothing like on TV in real life. He was down to earth, and seemingly very nice. He didn't mind taking a few pictures with us, which was cool.
So, that somewhat saved my night from being a complete disaster, but I'm still out more than $100 for nothing. I am never going to rely on something as shitty as Septa ever again. I can't believe that two trains just never came, and the one that did took an extra 3 hours to make it into the city. 4 hours on a train when it takes 90 minutes to drive there? That's ridiculous.
Anyway, the moral of the story is to never EVER have any kind of faith whatsoever in Septa (or in Philadelphia in general for that matter) and to only buy tickets for events when I have a more guaranteed plan and mode of transportation. And also, people on TV can be much different in real life. There is no such thing as reality TV. Nobody acts the same off camera as they do when they know there is one watching them. So keep that in mind.
With that, it's almost 2:30 am, so I think I should get some sleep before I have to go into work at 11. Goodnight!
